“Change occurs when you become who you are, not when you try to be who you are not.”

After Arnold Beisser.

Most people come to counselling because they want to change something about themselves or their lives. I believe that most of us can only change after we first understand who we truly are and how we really feel.

Without this awareness we can get stuck; repeating patterns of behaviour that may have kept us safe in the past but are not helpful now.

We may also try to force fit ourselves into a mould of how we think we should be. “Shoulds” that are shaped by the expectations of family, friends, work and the culture that we live in. Whilst relationships with others are important, it’s easy to lose sight of what we want.

I am trained in Gestalt Psychotherapy to help you in understanding yourself through exploring how you are in contact with your life in the present moment, rather than being bound to what should be, could be or was. Our work together will be founded on a non-judgmental, trusting, respectful and compassionate relationship between you and me.
